How to Become a Dollar Tree Supplier

Dollar Tree built its business on a single price point. Today it sells at $1.25 and a growing range of multi-price items — and in food much of what it sells comes from manufacturer-controlled brands built for those price points.

Why Dollar Tree matters

Dollar Tree operates more than 9,000 stores across the U.S. and Canada. More than 80% of its assortment is unique to Dollar Tree — but in food, much of that comes from manufacturer-controlled brands and exclusive pack sizes rather than true private label. Stores are supplied from 16 U.S. distribution centers, with a new Phoenix-area DC opening in 2026.

The price point is the spec

$1.25 remains Dollar Tree's core price, and about 85% of its products sell for $2 or less. Roughly 5,900 stores also carry multi-price items above $1.25, many in the $3–$5 range. A product works at Dollar Tree only if the pack size, cost and quality all land on one of those price points.

What it's like to supply Dollar Tree

  • The price point is everything. Start from $1.25 (or a multi-price point) and work backward. Dollar Tree is now also testing a $1.50 price point, which can open room for items that don't quite work at $1.25.
  • Smaller sizes. Expect to offer smaller ounce sizes to hit the price.
  • Very little true private label. In food, Dollar Tree leans on manufacturer-controlled brands, so your own or a control brand is often the way in.

What Dollar Tree will ask for

  • A New Vendor Application with company and contact details, banking information, a certificate of insurance, and your ship-to and freight terms.
  • Mandatory EDI for purchase orders and invoices, tested through SPS Commerce, and invoice and payment tracking through SAP Ariba.
  • Compliance with Dollar Tree's published inbound shipping requirements, labeling guidelines and recall handbook.
  • Delivery into a network of 16 U.S. distribution centers that handle about 90% of store inventory.

Where suppliers stumble

The usual miss is starting from an existing product and shrinking it until the math works. Successful Dollar Tree items are designed for the price point from the start — pack, case, pallet and freight included.

Is Dollar Tree a good fit for you?

If you can check most of these, Dollar Tree is worth a serious look. If you can't, it's usually fixable — and that's where we come in.

  • A pack size and delivered cost that work at $1.25, or at a multi-price point
  • Product quality that still holds up at that pack size
  • Retail EDI and the ability to work in SAP Ariba
  • Readiness to meet Dollar Tree's inbound shipping and labeling requirements
  • A current certificate of insurance and third-party food safety certification
  • Capacity to ship into a national distribution network
  • Comfort with a lower price per unit in exchange for very high unit volume
  • Willingness to sell under your own or a control brand, since true private label is limited
